About Focus Transport Planning 

Formed by three directors in 2018 Focus Transport Planning has grown year-on-year to become one of the Northwest’s leading SME transport planning consultancies.  From our base in South Manchester we work on projects across the UK, using our expertise and experience to deliver a client-focussed high quality and value driven service. 

This continued growth means that Focus TP are now looking for enthusiastic transport planners to join the team, with the key aim of assisting in the delivery of transport planning related development projects across the country.  Our projects range from strategic mixed-use masterplanning schemes, through to mineral & waste projects, residential and commercial/industrial developments.

 Our core services include, but are not limited to:

  • Local Plan support – such as input to Local Plan Site Representations and alternative site appraisals;

  • Pre-planning feasibility advice & concept design – including site feasibility appraisals and early-stage site masterplanning input;

  • Planning-stage support – production of site access/junction designs, Transport Statements/Assessments, Travel Plans, Environmental Statements, and advice regarding planning conditions/S106 obligations;

  • Post-planning services – management of S278, S38 & S184 agreements, temporary/permanent TROs and highway licences, implementation of Travel Plans and preparation of Construction Traffic Management Plans; and,

  • Expert witness – Focus TP act as expert witnesses at planning inquiries, Local Plan Examination in Public sessions, and provide written evidence to planning appeals;

 Available Roles

We are specifically looking for a Senior Transport Planning Consultant to join the team, as well as a Principal/Associate Director level consultant to provide growth and flexibility to the growing business.  Focus TP is happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for these roles, including the possibility of part-time working, flexible start and finish times, and hybrid/remote working.

 Senior Transport Planning Consultant

 Ideally 4 years’ or more experience is required for this role, and the successful candidate would have a mix of the following specific skills:

  •  Project management of Transport Planning projects;

  • Production of Technical Notes, Transport Statements/Assessments;

  • Production of Framework and Full Travel Plans;

  • An understanding of highway design standards and guidance, as well as transport related planning guidance;

  • Input to junction design and undertaking swept path appraisals;

  • Data analysis and junction modelling (Junctions9, LinSig etc.); and,

  • Presentation skills, including attendance at client & Authority facing meetings as well as public consultation events.

 Principal Transport Planning Consultant/Associate Director

 Ideally 5 years’ or more experience is required for this role and, further to the skills outlined above, the successful candidate would be able to bring the following to the role:

  • Preparation of evidence to support strategic/Local Plan site promotion;

  • An ability to project manage larger scale development projects, including preparation of complex Transport Assessments and input into Environmental Statements;

  • Preparation of evidence to input to Planning Appeals, including acting as Expert Witness at Planning Inquiries;

  • Project management of post-planning projects such as S38 & S278 works (engineering design experience is not essential);

  All applicants should ideally have a relevant degree such as Civil Engineering, Geography, or Transport Planning and a high standard of writing skills.
